The Comfort Heritage Foundation's Tour of Homes
Here in Comfort, Texas, we're proud to honor our heritage and history. Our Texas Hill Country town was founded in 1854 by German immigrants who were part of the Freethinker movement in their native country. Much of the town is designated as a National Historic District, with more than 100 buildings dating back to the 19th century. Our own Hotel Giles was built in 1880 by famed San Antonio architect Alfred Giles, who also designed several other buildings and homes in Comfort. As you walk through our charming downtown, you can appreciate the architecture of the structures that are now home to businesses, shops and restaurants. A number of the notable historic buildinngs are actually residential homes, and you will get a chance to explore them during the Comfort Heritage Foundation's Tour of Homes in October.
During the Tour of Homes, you will step back in time to appreciate the craftsmanship, elegance and stories behind Comfort's carefully preserved homes. The event is held biennially, and this year's tour is set for Saturday, October 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You'll tour six homes on historic High Street and beyond. The Tour of Homes allows participants to witness the creative transformations that community residents have made to historic houses in our quaint town, seamlessly blending their individual styles and family needs with the architectural heritage of these old homes. Each residence pays homage to the past, showcasing remarkable workmanship and design achievements.
The Comfort Heritage Foundation is the organization behind this event. This nonprofit group is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the unique cultural and architectural heritage of Comfort. Its mission is to educate, inspire and engage the community and visitors in the preservation of Comfort's history and historic properties. The Comfort Heritage Foundation expresses profound gratitude to these homeowners for their dedication in revitalizing aging dwellings and generously opening them to the public. All of the proceeds raised through tickets sales for the tour benefit the foundation's mission.
When you stay with us at Hotel Giles this October, be sure to add the Comfort Heritage Foundation's Tour of Homes to your getaway itinerary. Grab your tickets the day of the event at the Old Bank Building at 7th and High Streets. It's fascinating to see these homes, inside and out, that reflect the history of Comfort and the lives of the town’s early residents as preserved by our current residents. The Tour of Homes is truly a testament to the enduring charm and history of Comfort. It brings together the past and the present, offering a unique opportunity to explore the town's heritage while supporting its preservation efforts.
