A Day at a Texas Hill Country Park
Whether you're looking to take a quiet stroll to enjoy peaceful views of Texas Hill Country, or want to launch your next adventure kayaking down the Guadalupe River, Kendall County Parks offer something for everyone. Relax, play or exercise – it's up to you!
Joshua Springs Park and Preserve
This 360-acre park, situated along I-10 between Comfort and Boerne, boasts numerous amenities. Take your bike or hike on nearly two miles of trails that head up the winding road to the Ring Mountain Event Center atop one of the highest peaks in the county for magnificent panoramic views.
Joshua Springs Park and Preserve provides a tranquil setting for those who want to get in tune with nature. Educational signs throughout the park will guide you as you learn about the native wildlife, plants and birds. Use the observation blinds to watch birds and wildlife without disturbing their natural behavior. Fishing enthusiasts will want to check out the fishing piers, as the waters at Joshua Springs are filled with channel catfish, largemouth bass and sunfish.
James Kiehl River Bend Park
This 25-acre natural area is what the locals call a "hidden gem." Beautiful and serene, the park is located east of Comfort along the scenic Guadalupe River, with more than 1,600 feet of water frontage. Kayakers and tubers can access the river here, and the banks are lined with majestic bald cypress trees that provide shade for the journey. Families can enjoy playing and swimming in the river, followed by a picnic at one of the picnic tables or benches. Anglers can cast a line in hopes of reeling in a variety of trout, bass and more. It's river recreation at its best!
The James Kiehl River Bend Park has 1.5 miles of multi-use trails in three different looped paths. The park's meadowlands are terrific for birding, and local birding groups regularly have organized walks here. This small but well-maintained park is the perfect place to relax in the sunshine, take in the tranquil views and enjoy nature. It's named in honor of Army Spc. James Kiehl, who gave his life in service to his country, and the men and women of Kendall County who have served and are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
