Explore the Beauty of Boerne's Public Parks
Follow US-87 just a few miles south of Hotel Giles, and you'll find yourself in Boerne, Texas. It's a small Hill Country city that, much like its northern neighbor Comfort, is known for its picturesque natural beauty and historic charm. Among the many things to see and do in Boerne, the city's parks are a major draw for locals and visitors alike. During your next getaway to our historic inn, we encourage you to spend time exploring the trails and outdoor recreational opportunites that Boerne's parks have to offer.
There are 10 public parks operated by the city's Parks and Recreation Department. Boerne City Park is the largest, covering 125 acres in the heart of the city. The park is bordered on one side by Cibolo Creek, which boasts some of the most magnificent cypress-lined banks along the waterway. There are several paved trails for hiking and biking, and plenty of lush green spaces. The scenic Cibolo Trail runs nearly 2 miles from the park all the way to Main Plaza in downtown Boerne. Boerne City Park is also a popular destination for its playgrounds, picnic areas, sports fields and municipal outdoor swimming pool.
City Lake Park is another great destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The lake, of course, is a big draw. Take advantage of the fishing pier to drop a line in the water, or rent gear from Hill Country Paddle Sports to go kayaking or paddle-boarding. You can sign up for a sailing lesson or go on a sunset cruise with Trisum Sailing. On dry land, visitors can explore the park's unpaved walking and hiking trails, which wind through the woods and offer stunning views of the lake. Nature lovers will enjoy the butterfly garden and the bird observation blind, while Frisbee enthusiasts can partake in the challenging 18-hole disc golf course.
River Road Park's location along the banks of the Cibolo Creek makes it a great spot for nature lovers, who can enjoy the scenic beauty of the Hill Country and the cool waters of the creek. Spanning the length of the park, the paved Cibolo Trail is perfect for a leisurely stroll. Benches along the creek and fishing piers provide opportunities for rest and relaxation as you absorb the park's beautiful surroundings. Located across the street from River Road Park are several restaurants and shops, if you want to grab a bite to eat or do a little souvenir shopping before heading back your restful retreat at Hotel Giles.
Overall, Boerne's parks are a testament to the town's commitment to preserving its natural beauty and providing residents and visitors with opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. Whether you're looking for a place to kayak, sail, fish, hike, or just relax and enjoy a picnic, Boerne's parks have something for everyone.
