Kerrville Chalk Festival and Kerrville River Festival
One weekend, two festivals — both here in the heart of Texas Hill Country in the charming town of Kerrville. The Kerrville Chalk Festival and Kerrville River Festival are two events that celebrate the essence of Kerrville, known for its natural beauty, artistic spirit and vibrant community. Happening just 20 minutes northwest of Hotel Giles in mid-October, these two festivals bring together locals and visitors alike to revel in the magic of art and music along the Guadalupe River.
The Kerrville Chalk Festival is a two-day event that transforms Kerrville into an outdoor art gallery. This year's event, held in Peterson Plaza, is set for October 14-15, 2023. Talented artists from all over the region are invited to turn the city's sidewalks and streets into stunning works of art. Watch as they create spectacular chalk drawings in all styles and sizes... or roll up your sleeves and take part in the public mural to let your inner artist shine. Stroll the plaza to find the perfect spot to listen to great live performers while enjoying treats from delicious food vendors.
Just across the river at Louise Hays Park is where the Kerrville River Festival will celebrate its fourth year on October 14. This event showcases the town's deep appreciation for music and nature along the banks of the tranquil Guadalupe River. A phenomenal music lineup includes main-stage performances by Danielle Bradbery, Madam Radar, Landon Lloyd Miller and Ghosts of Pleasure Garden. So whether you're a fan of Americana rock, country pop, folk and country classics, or high-energy blues, there's something for everyone to enjoy. In addition to the music, festivalgoers will enjoy great food, drinks and activities.
During these festivals on Saturday beginning at 10:22 a.m., a "ring of fire" annular solar eclipse will occur. At the Kerrville River Festival, NASA will be at the park to livestream the eclipse on a national broadcast. The eclipse will reach its peak at 11:52 a.m. and ends at 1:30 p.m. It will be an exciting atmosphere to watch the Sun, Moon and Earth align. Come prepared: You will need certified eclipse glasses, a solar filter or a pinhole camera to protect your eyes while viewing the eclipse.
Kerrville's Chalk Festival and River Festival are shining examples of what makes this Texas Hill Country town a true gem. Whether you're an art enthusiast, a music lover or simply looking for a great place to view the eclipse, these festivals are not to be missed. Be sure to add them to your itinerary when you stay with us at Hotel Giles this October.
