Scarecrow Invasion and Harvest Fest in Comfort
We never want to "scare" visitors away in Comfort, Texas... that is, unless you're a crow. In the spirit of the harvest season, the Comfort Chamber of Commerce promotes a town-wide decorating contest each October called the Scarecrow Invasion. Sure, the scarecrows help to deter any marauding blackbirds from pestering local crops. But this annual event is aimed at inspiring a fun, festive fall atmosphere throughout town, as residents and businesses pull out all the stops to bring these stuffed straw creations to life!
Beginning the first of the month, the town and surrounding countryside will start filling with scarecrows and fall decorations. You never know what yard, porch, sidewalk or rooftop you might find one – or group of them! The creativity of the Comfort community is remarkable.
Tribes of dapper straw people have been found riding motorcycles, flying through the air, climbing trees, and even receiving relaxing spa treatments. Scarecrows really live it up in Comfort – so don't be surprised to see them playing in bands, swinging on porch swings and enjoying local fare.
The Chamber of Commerce awards prizes for the best and most unique scarecrow displays, with categories such as "Only in Comfort" and "Best of Invasion." Who will win? Pick your favorites and see if they're among the best of the best!
