Potluck culture is a cherished tradition here in Comfort, Texas, where sharing food with friends, family and neighbors is a common occurrence. If you think that out-of-town visitors wouldn't be invited to join in these communal meals, you'd be wrong. When you stay with us at Hotel Giles, you're encouraged to partake in our community potluck dinners, where folks go out of their way to make sure everyone is fed and comfortable and feels welcomed. It's Southern hospitality at its finest!

They're a way for people to come together, socialize and connect with others over delicious dishes, and share their love of food. The beauty of a potluck is that everyone brings a different dish to share, which creates a diverse spread of food and allows everyone to try something new.
Where can you find a local potluck here in Comfort? Start by checking out the Hotel Giles events page on our website. Two of our favorite regularly held potlucks are at Ursa at Branch on High and Food for the Soul Bistro.
Ursa at Branch on High is the downtown tasting room of Bending Branch Winery. Every Thursday night from 6-8 p.m. they host a themed potluck meal where all are welcome as long as you contribute a dish to share. They usually have between 20 and 30 people attend these informal potluck feasts. The food themes change weekly and have included breakfast for dinner, cheesy foods, Italian, curry, Tex-Mex and more.
Food for the Soul Bistro is famous for their Friday steak dinners, but on most Tuesdays, they host potlucks that are open to all Hotel Giles guests. The Shelby family has been hosting these potluck meals since 2018, where a core group of regulars welcome guests with open arms and Southern hospitality. Beer and wine are available for purchase at Just Chillin' Wine Bar, which adjoins the bistro. The food and friends are free.
If you want to attend a potluck while you're a guest with us at Hotel Giles but don't have a kitchen to whip up your favorite casserole, that's OK. There are plenty of local shops where you can purchase a dish to share — like a delectable dessert from Lani's Cheesecakes. Or reach out to one of our fabulous restaurants that also do catering — like Bella Sera, La Calabria or Flamingo Street — who we know can provide you with a family-style dish to impress.
