Must-Visit Wineries Along the Trail
One stop you won’t want to miss is Bending Branch Winery, just a short drive from downtown Comfort and Hotel Giles. Known for its innovative winemaking techniques and commitment to quality, Bending Branch produces some of the best wines in Texas. If you’re a red wine lover, try their signature Tannat, a bold, full-bodied varietal that’s become their claim to fame. Prefer something crisp and refreshing? Their Picpoul Blanc is a white wine bursting with citrus and bright acidity. With 30 different grape varieties growing on their picturesque estate, you’re sure to find something that suits your taste.
Other standout wineries on the trail that are just a short drive from our historic hotel include Becker Vineyards, Kerrville Hills Winery, Sister Creek Vineyards, and Turtle Creek Vineyard, each offering unique wines and stunning views of the rolling Hill Country landscape.
Wildflowers in Full Bloom
While you’re checking out the Fredericksburg-area wineries, make a stop at Wildseed Farms—the largest wildflower farm in the U.S. With over 200 acres of vibrant bluebonnets, poppies, and Indian paintbrushes, it’s a breathtaking place to take a stroll, snap some photos, and soak in the colors of spring. They even have a wine tasting room and a beer garden, so you can sip while you take in the view.
Speaking of wildflowers, there’s no better time to see them than in the spring. The Texas Hill Country is famous for its bluebonnets—our official state flower—but they’re just the beginning. Primroses, buttercups, and Indian paintbrushes add to the colorful display along roadsides and meadows. Bluebonnets typically start blooming in late March and peak in early April, so the Wine & Wildflower Journey is perfectly timed for nature lovers and wine enthusiasts alike.
Plan Your Wine & Wildflower Journey
Passport tickets for the event are $65 for individuals and $100 for couples, giving you access to tastings, discounts, and hundreds of dollars in savings. Just remember, most wineries require reservations, so plan ahead to make the most of your journey.
Whether you’re here for a weekend getaway or taking your time to explore all 26 days, the Wine & Wildflower Journey is the perfect way to experience Texas Wine Country in all its springtime glory. Cheers to warm weather, blooming wildflowers, and unforgettable sips.
